Ryan Murphy just weighed in on the “Sex and the City 3” drama, and it was straight up savage
There’s been tons of Sex and the City drama in the news lately. So naturally, American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy weighed in on Sex and the City 3 — and had some pretty sacrilegious thoughts.
To back up, rumors of a third movie had been swirling for quite some time. But recently, Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed that Sex and the City 3 is a no-go. Then, Kristin Davis expressed her frustration that the third installment was killed.
As we sobbed, rumors swirled that the reason was Kim Cattrall, a.k.a. Samantha. The Daily Mail reported that Cattrall had some “outrageous demands” that kept the movie from being made.
Cattrall tried to clarify on Twitter.

But of course, that wasn’t the end of it.
That brings us to Ryan Murphy.
During an interview at the New Yorker Festival, Murphy talked about the alleged claims. And his answer to the problem is very blunt.
“Recast Samantha!” Murphy said during the interview, according to Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t get it! Look, I would be very devastated if I created something cultural like that and 95 percent of the team said, ‘Let’s do it,’ but there was a hold on it. I don’t blame Kim Cattrall though.”
It’s hard to imagine anyone filling Cattrall’s shoes, however. Also, the show started in 1998. That’s a long time to have the same Samantha pictured in our heads. We just don’t think a recast will happen.
However, we will humbly suggest that instead of Sex and the City 3, maybe they should make more seasons of The Carrie Diaries. The short-lived show was super underrated and we demand it come back immediately with the same cast.
Apparently, Murphy is a pretty big SATC fan. He also talked about how important the show was to him.
“They meant something to me – they were important and cultural in changing the discussion of women and sexuality.”
That said, there will never be a replacement Samantha.
