We love it when our favorite celebrities can master something incredible in the kitchen. Take, Kevin Bacon for example, who loves making his three-ingredient flourless pancakes for his wife on the weekends. And what about Stanley Tucci’s super easy summer pasta that had us wanting to create it again and again during those hot months? And let’s not forget Emily Blunt’s turkey bolognese that impressed even the likes of some seriously big-name chefs (ahem, Ina Garten).

The list can go on, and lucky for us it will, with Ryan Gosling who apparently knows has to master a recipe from his mom. As if we couldn’t love him more.

Ryan Gosling's Homemade Pie

Gosling was recently interviewed for W Magazine alongside his "Barbie" co-star Margot Robbie about all things, well, "Barbie" and so much more.

What got our attention was the food talk which came a little later on and when it did, we were there for it. Gosling joked near the beginning about asking Robbie whether this was a “safe space” and we can’t help but wonder if that was because he was going to drop one mega bombshell on the audience.

“I make a hell of a pie,” Gosling says, and then goes on to add that his preference of pie to make is “raspberry.”

“My mom used to bake as a side hustle growing up,” he says. “So I’m just lucky enough to get the pie gene.”

When asked about his pie crust abilities by the interviewer, the actor did not hold back, implying that he makes it from scratch. “I flute my crust too, so don’t let anyone tell you that I don’t,” he added jokingly. We wouldn’t dream of it. Robbie, for her part, was equally surprised by this revelation and hurt she hasn't been gifted a pie.

What Does Fluting Pie Crust Mean Anyway?

If you were confused, like Robbie, when Gosling brought up fluted edges, we got you. We have a lot of well-established home cooks here at Allrecipes but we always like to provide a refresher now and then. A fluted pie crust is when you crimp it with your fingers to give it that gorgeous decorative border that everyone will rave about. You can also use the back of a teaspoon to create a wider scalloped edge if you prefer.

Fluted pie crusts are super easy to create and hardly add any extra time when whipping up your homemade pie. While you’re at it, you might also want to test out making a raspberry pie to go with those scalloped edges. We have plenty of raspberry pie recipes to choose from that will get you on your way. It won’t be the same thing if Gosling baked it for you, but it’s close. Sort of.
