Russell Brand, who first found fame on MTV U.K. and has starred in films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek, was accused of sexual assault by four women in a new report by The Sunday Times. The report, which was published following a joint investigation with The Times of London and the U.K. network Channel 4’s documentary team “Dispatches,” includes allegations of “rape, sexual assaults and emotional abuse” that purportedly took place between 2006 and 2013. During part of that time, Brand was in a relationship with singer Katy Perry from 2009 to 2010. The pair were engaged and married within 10 months, and eventually divorced after just over a year of marriage.

Russell Brand and Laura Gallacher, who initially dated before Brand’s marriage to Katy Perry in 2010, got married in 2017. They share three children together, with their first daughter, Mabel, born in 2016, followed by their wedding in August the following year. The intimate church ceremony in Henley-on-Thames was attended by close friends and family, including their then-nine-month-old Mabel. Their second daughter, Peggy, arrived in 2018, and in June 2023, Brand announced that the pair were expecting another baby together on the podcast “The Diary of a CEO.” It is believed that Laura has since given birth to their third child.

The sexual assault claims against Brand are featured in a new 90-minute documentary titled Russell Brand: In Plain Sight, set to air on Channel 4 on September 16, 2023, at 9 p.m. GMT. According to a rep for the documentary, “Five women, four of whom asked to remain anonymous, agreed to share their stories of serious sexual allegations in the program.”

In the Times’ report, Brand’s accusers came forward with disturbing allegations of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse against the actor. One accuser accused the comedian of raping her at his Los Angeles home, prompting her to seek help at a rape crisis center and confront him via text message. A second woman, who was 16 at the time, detailed a three-month abusive relationship with a then-31-year-old Brand, during which he referred to her as “the child” and subjected her to distressing acts, including forcing her to perform oral sex and read passages from Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita.

Another accuser claimed that Brand sexually assaulted her while they worked together in Los Angeles and threatened legal action if she spoke out. A fourth woman also alleged sexual assault and described enduring both physical and emotional abuse during her relationship with Brand.

Since the allegations began making headlines, many are wondering how Russell Brand’s wife, Laura Gallacher, is reacting to the claims. For everything we know about Russell Brand’s wife’s response to his rape allegations, keep on reading below.

How did Russell Brand’s wife respond to his rape and sexual assault allegations? Laura Brand, née Gallacher, has yet to publicly respond to the claims against her husband—but she did make a pretty telling move on social media. According to The Mirror, Russell Brand’s wife deleted her social media account in response her husband’s latest controversy.

His wife’s account, @thejoyjournal, is no longer live on Instagram. Her most recent posts, however, are still coming up on Google searches and show her promoting her book, The Joy Journal. While she has yet to make any public statements about the sexual abuse allegations against her husband, the author and illustrator’s sister, television presenter Kirsty Gallacher, initially offered her support to her brother-in-law on Instagram. She reposted Russell Brand’s response to the rape claims on her own Instagram Story, adding a beating heart emoji to the post. However, according to The Mirror, the model and TV star later deleted the clip from her Instagram.

As for Brand, the actor has since denied the claims launched against him, describing them as “extremely egregious and aggressive attacks” in a nearly three-minute long video posted to social media and YouTube on September 15, 2023. “I’ve received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email, one from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper, listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks,” he said. “But amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks, are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”

Brand described his relationships with his accusers as “consensual,” having taken place during a period of time of “promiscuity.” He shared, “These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies. And as I’ve written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous. Now during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual.”
