Running has changed my life in every perceptible and imperceptible way. It helps me to be the person I most want to be, which is to say the best version of myself: for myself, for my husband, and for my kids. It keeps me grounded, but also reminds me that I can lift off and do more whenever I please; that I'm stronger and infinitely more capable than I realize. Running is my meditation, my church, my time to connect with myself and with nature. I can't imagine who I would be without it in my life.

I joined RW+ to access RW tips, advice, and recommendations. I also wanted to be able to access the long-form stories and essays that RW is known for.

I run because I love it. I run because I know that if I don't run (due to illness or injury) I'll miss it and won't feel like myself. When I was a kid I used to daydream about playing music in front of thousands of people. I've done that. Now I daydream about my next run.

I run four days a week, every week. Before work during the week and one weekend day, always in the early morning. I live in a rural area of Wisconsin, so I run on the surrounding country roads. I love the 4.5 mile loop and the 7.5 mile loop around my house. The roads are quiet and I regularly encounter animals (both domestic and wild). Parts of both loops are flat, parts of them are hilly, but all of it is wonderful.

I love my Nike Pegasus 35 shoes. They are my holy grail of running shoes. I also love my Strata Long Sleeve running shirt from Tracksmith. It fits perfectly and keeps me warm, even on 30 degree Wisconsin mornings.

My main goal is to run all year without injury. My secondary goal is to run the Detroit Free Press half marathon in October and finish strong!
