I’ve been running for over 40 years. Where I grew up, girls did not participate much in sports. In basketball, you played half court. But I was swept up in the running craze of the 1970’s. All was uncharted: shoes, running bras, carb-loading, exactly how far is a 10k?

I just kept running because I enjoyed it. I’ve been able to run in some fabulous places: Boston, New York, Grandma’s, Grandfather’s, Flying Pig, Flying Monkey, Greece, Vancouver, Washington, and Philadelphia. I love running locally and seeing old friends. I’ve helped other runners. I have slowed down but I’m still excited about getting out there.

I am a morning runner. I used to meet a group at 5:30 a.m. but now that I’ve retired I wait for daylight. I like company, but I am okay solo. I also run outside almost all of the time with a variety of routes. I try to run on trails when the weather is nice. I didn’t start out on trails, but I found that it is easier on the body. Now I’ve seen all kinds of birds and other animals including a coyote. Another route includes a hill that is a reminder of Heart Break. If I am very serious about an upcoming race, I go to a nearby track.

I don’t leave home without sunscreen and my road ID.

As far as a goal, I’m not setting any PRs but I want to continue to run and have fun. I want to be safe. In some small way, I want to be a role model for the next generation.
