Running has transformed my life in immeasurable ways. From the first run I did (Turkey Trot Central Park NYRRC 1990) to the many marathons I have completed since. It’s my daily addiction that keeps me fit and mentally balanced. I take running with me all over the world as I travel the globe looking for gems. Its the once consistent that has allowed me to experience places in a way I could never do without running.

I’m constantly searching for advice, tips, running shoe reviews, and reading about other runners. I have read the Runner’s World magazine cover to cover for over 25 years, so Runner’s World+ was another great portal for me to explore and allow me to have a further immersion into my great passion for running.

I’m motivated by the physical and mental benefits I get from running and the great sense of accomplishment and success. I have tried for years to beat my best marathon time and get in under 4 hours. This last NYC marathon I did a 3:58.. it was my best time ever in my entire running life—with the help of my running coach I achieved an enormous goal which I never thought possible.

My daily running route is on the East River in New York heading south from 34th. I’m out very early (around 5:15 AM) and have various routes south depending on how much mileage I want to do, and also getting my speedwork in. If I want to add hills, I head over the Brooklyn Bridge and take in the glorious views and then head to the East River track to do speedwork.

There are so many running things I love but right now my favorite thing is a very old Patagonia lightweight merino wool long sleeve top. Works perfectly for a cool morning run.

I’m Chief Gemologist at Tiffany & Co. and passionate about gemstones. I search the earth for the rarest treasures mother nature has to offer. I’m a very lucky man.

Of course Boston. With my time last year’s time in NYC marathon I will qualify for Boston in 2021—an incredible milestone for me.
