Running forces me to set personal goals, take time for myself, and reflect on important things going on in my life. Not only have I found peace during stressful situations while out on long runs—I’ve actually planned some of my favorite teaching lessons. On those days I’m completely exhausted and I feel a sense of accomplishment after lacing up and stepping out the front door. Running has given me confidence in myself and patience with others that I didn’t have before I started.

I love reading about other runners and their accomplishments. I feel like we all go through the same challenges and this community allows us to lean on each other without judgment.

Sometimes I remind myself that I “get” to run instead of thinking of it as a chore. Other times I read an article highlighting another runner or see a runner friend’s post and it motivates me to get out there and get it done.

My favorite place to run is right here in Levittown, NY. I run the streets of my town. I get comfort in passing by crowded stores, friends’ houses, or my children’s schools. Some roads are busier than others, but I love that I’ve learned to navigate traffic and appreciate the occasional break at a red light or stop sign.

I always wear my Road iD bracelet. It gives me a sense of security and comfort knowing that my personal and medical information is easily accessible in case of an emergency. Other than that, I’d say my playlist of songs ranging from students from Eminem to Poison to Justin Bieber is something that I always take with me.

I always wear two different color socks when I run. I started a couple of years ago when I couldn’t find a matching pair and just went with it from there!

I haven’t done a full marathon yet, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while now.
