In 2018 I moved to New York and was inspired by the running community. I decided I would run my second NYC Marathon, but I would train and hopefully BQ this time—lofty goals for a slow, undisciplined runner. In 2019 I ran NYRR 9+1 series to qualify for the 2020 marathon.

As we all know, 2020 had other plans, and in February I caught a cold that really derailed my training and then COVID-19 hit NYC. There were so many unknowns and it was hard to run and stay 6 ft apart. I stopped running... I think I was depressed that the marathon was no longer a possibility. I think I was worried to do anything that might risk my health (running near others) and I think I just got lazy. I am now starting to run again, and I’m in the worst shape of my life.

This year I will not make lofty goals and I will not download twenty marathon training plans. But I will run, because I love it, I know I can do it safely, and although we must be socially distanced, I will be connected to the running community that I love.

I joined for more information and resources while training for the 2020 NYC Marathon.

I run to get in shape and stay in shape. I run for the community. I run to beat my old self.

I live on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. It feels like it was built for runners, with Central Park a half mile from my door and the path near the Hudson in the other direction. I daydream about new places to run that start and finish at my apartment door.

I always run in Asics and I have an obsession with anything Lululemon.

When I trained for the 2016 NYC Marathon I lived on an island in the Bahamas that was only three miles long... I ran a lot of laps around the island to get my miles!
