I started running when I was 48. A close friend asked me to join his running group for a run. I had never been interested in running and ultimately put it off for months. I finally decided to join him and have never looked back. Within the next year I ran a 10 mile race, two half marathons, two full marathons, and qualified for Boston.

When I was 50 I had the amazing experience of running Boston, but honestly, it was all of the early morning training runs with my running community that made me the happiest. I have learned so many valuable life lessons through running:

  • It’s the journey not the destination.

  • Being part of a supportive community brings me so much happiness and allows me to share it with others.

  • When life gets hard put one foot in front of the other.

  • In today’s defeat I will find a lesson for tomorrow.

  • Regardless of what my day brings, I can always count on a run for a sense of accomplishment.

I had no idea when I went on that first run with Larry and his friends that my life would be changed forever.

Helpful, informative, inspiring and interesting articles.

Running gives me a sense of achievement every day, and it’s a great way to spend time with my friends.

My friend who introduced me to running sadly passed away. Anytime I run through his hometown I feel his presence.

Hydration and nutrition are absolutely imperative to me. I am beyond obsessed with my Orange Mud hydration pack and would never go for a long run without it. It is definitely my security blanket.

I started skateboarding when I was 12 and have never stopped. There needs to be one suburban mom riding a skateboard through the neighborhood.

My running goal is simple. Continue to run happy and healthy for years to come. With that said, finally standing at the NYC marathon starting line.
