Running has lightened my spirit. I’ve only been running a few years now. Becoming a runner has given me a whole other category of physical challenge. It has brought me in contact with some amazing individuals. I admire people who keep pushing and reaching to accomplish a goal, or to better themselves. I have learned that races are also, often, charity functions. We all like the bling, but it feels good to know someone else benefits also.

I joined RW+ for the inspiration and information. I live in a small rural area with no gyms, no running stores, etc. RW+ is an awesome source for training and gear information for me.

I run to feel good. I run to accomplish a goal. I run to push myself, and to be healthy. I want to put something in the bank, so I will hopefully still be moving 20+ years from now.

I run on my local backroads. It’s where I am and what I have, simple. I run 99% of the time outside, where I absolutely love to be. I run in multiple layers for winter and in shorts and a tank in the summer. The weather is a challenge all on its own.

My favorite piece of gear is hard to choose. Since I run backroads in the early morning, my Noxgear vest is almost a necessity, but I think my Garmin has to be my favorite item. It’s proof that I’ve done something good for myself each run. It keeps track so I don’t have to; I can wander down any side road and know how far I’ve gone.

My first pair of running shoes from an actual running store was on vacation in Florida. I watched 1,000 Santas run down the road from my hotel room, and I thought, I want to do that, and I did the following year—my first 5K.

My running goal is to just keep doing it.
