Before I started running I didn’t see myself as being strong and capable. I really struggled with self-image and confidence. I discovered the more I ran the more confident I became. I learned to believe in myself and see how strong I was mentally as well as physically. This new found confidence pushed me into a new career teaching, and allowed me the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship.

Running also helped me to make healthier choices. I initially started running after seeing the health issues that plagued my parents as they aged. I knew I had to start exercising and making smarter food decisions. Once I started running I wanted to make sure I fueled myself properly, and switched to a plant based diet. Running has truly made me a better, happier, and healthier person.

I love reading Runner’s World and look forward to every issue. It feeds my obsession for all things running related. I really look up to all of the athletes I read about, and I love being part of such a supportive community.

I run because it makes me a better, happier person. Whenever I start my day off with a run I have so much more energy for teaching. It makes me feel accomplished, and I know whatever else happens that day at least I got my run in.

I love to run first thing in the morning before heading off to work. The world is such a quiet peaceful place at 5 a.m., and I love it when I can catch the sunrise. I love running in Prospect Park—I’m fortunate enough to live right across the street so it’s convenient and beautiful. Really any place I don’t have to stop for traffic is a great place to run. My other favorite place is the track. I always felt like the track was a really intimidating place until I joined a group. Now I really look forward to track Tuesdays with Brooklyn Track club. Everybody there always pushes me to do my best.

I love my Nike 4%, they’re so comfortable and I feel like I’m flying. I also can’t live without my Garmin.

Qualify for Boston, I ran 3:43 in NY coming off of injury so I’m feeling good about my chances next year.
