I have always had an on again/off again love affair with running, but in 2016, a traumatic incident changed my perspective. Playing into every New Yorker’s fear, I was hit by a car while walking the city streets. Due to my concussion, I wasn’t allowed any screen time for months but I was allowed to go for walks and then runs as part of my recovery process. Somewhere along the way, I started to enjoy running. For the first time, I really fell in love with it. It reminded me how much I like to be challenged and that I never want to do anything the easy way. I wasn’t capable of thinking, or tying my shoes, but running became so engrained in my daily routine. Once my brain had healed, I couldn’t imagine a day without a morning run or why we had such bad breakups in the past. Now it serves as part of my normal routine and time where I can unplug and tune out before the day begins. I always have to remind myself—if the girl in protective headgear could get it done, then you have no excuse.

Who doesn’t like to geek out about new gear, races, and fancy recovery toys!

Running lets me start each day with an accomplishment and pound out any stress or anxiety.

Griffith Park—I need my phone to navigate around LA, but I can navigate the fire roads in Griffith like a local. I now know where all the water fountains and bathrooms are for all my long runs.

My running skirts from Skirt Sports and my ROAD iD shoe tag. Skirt Sports has the best compression shorts with grippers so they don’t move at all during the run. Plus, the skirt makes me look more put together and is cuter in photos—even though I am a sweaty mess. My ROAD iD did all the thinking for me when I couldn’t.

I pick all my races based on the medal. If I am going to spend months training for it, I want something creative to commemorate the accomplishment.

To become a Six Star Finisher! Two down, three deferred to future years due to COVID-19. London will be the hardest to race but will be the final jewel in the crown.
