How to Run a Disney Race in 2018

If you resolved to get fit and travel more in 2018, then we have great news for you: You can do both at Disney.

Each and every year, Disney resorts around the globe host a variety of events that will both entertain you and make you sweat. We are of course talking about Disney’s world-famous running series.

If you missed the Disney Princess half-marathon, which wrapped up on Feb. 25, don't fret. Disney will host five more running events this year between Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland in Paris, France. All are multi-day events with races for every level of runner.

Stars Wars Virtual Half-marathon

The Star Wars virtual half-marathon is ongoing from now through March 31. “Race through the galaxy on a course of your choosing for the inaugural Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon,” the runDisney site says. “Whether you break up your 13.1 miles over multiple days or rack up the mileage all at once, runners will earn a one-of-a-kind, Star Wars-themed medal for their accomplishment. Don't miss out on this Star Wars adventure like no other.” All you need to do is register, then simply run and complete your own race in your own time.

Star Wars Half-marathon - The Dark Side

If you’re more into dressing up as a Stormtrooper and racing alongside thousands of fellow Star Wars enthusiasts, Disney World is offering a real-life Star Wars half-marathon on Sunday, April 22. The festivities kick off on April 19 with the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo and also include kids races on April 21.

Virtual Running Shorts

Take your Disney fitness regimen into summer with the Virtual Running Shorts, which are happening throughout the season from June 1 to August 31. You can get your dog involved, too.

“Pluto's the honorary host for this year's Virtual Running Shorts Series and he's inviting everyone – human and canine – to join in on a summer of magical runs on a course of your choosing. Stroll, walk, or jog on a track, around the neighborhood, or even through the dog park! It's your chance to experience all the excitement of a magical Disney run right in your own backyard,” Disney said.

For this year’s shorts, people can take part in three individual races, each with a different commemorative Pluto Finisher Medal. If you run and complete all three of the 5K races you'll receive a Virtual Running Shorts Series Finisher Medal plus a Coolcore towel thrown in as an added bonus.

Disneyland Paris Half-marathon

If you’re hoping to get to Europe to lace up your running shoes, Disneyland Paris has the race for you. The park will be hosting its own half-marathon weekend from September 20-23. There are special Disney hotel packages offered for the weekend as well.

Disney Wine & Dine Half-marathon

Finally, you can round out your Disney running year by taking part in Disney World’s Wine and Dine Half-marathon on Sunday, Nov. 4. If this doesn't make running fun, nothing will.

“We are serving up the Disney Fall Feast 5K, Disney Wine & Dine 10K, runDisney Kids Races and the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon to cap off the weekend,” Disney wrote. “Plus, runners can take on the Disney Two Course Challenge, combining the 10K and Half Marathon, to earn the coveted Challenge medal.”

Though, if you absolutely are looking to push yourself, perhaps now is the time to start training for Disney World’s full marathon taking place in January of 2019. This way you have plenty of time to train — and get your costume ready.
