  • The season 3 finale of Yellowstone, which aired in August, ended with a major cliffhanger: John Dutton was shot on the side of the road, leaving fans to question if he'd make it out of the season alive.

  • In a recent interview, Kevin Costner, who plays John, voiced his uncertainty about his character's return in season 4.

  • This, of course, caused fans to speculate if Kevin was leaving the show.

Initially, Yellowstone fans feared that Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes, who play Beth and Kayce Dutton, were being written off the show following the season 3 finale bombshell. But now, all eyes are on the Dutton's patriarch, played by Kevin Costner.

The final few moments in the season 3 finale episode, which aired last August, shows all three Dutton's under attack: a bomb exploded in Beth's office, gunmen stormed Kayce's office, and John was shot while helping someone on the side of the road. The episode ended without any conclusion, causing fans to fear that some or all of the Duttons wouldn't make it out alive. Despite the speculation, it seemed unlikely that any (or all) of these three characters would be killed off the show, especially since it appears that the Duttons are just getting started.

In a recent interview on Good Day New York, Kevin addressed the question at hand, admitting that he can't reveal John Dutton's fate: "I can’t say. There’s an ending that you’re gonna see, hopefully it’s a powerful one for you." Continuing on, he explained that he likes to "make things and be a part of things that have a dramatic arc to them." His advice to Yellowstone fans: "Just try to enjoy it right up to the end if you can."

This statement didn't exactly help put fan's at ease. Shortly after, the Internet erupted with even more speculation that Kevin was leaving the show. Some, like this Twitter user, even said they heard a rumor that he might have been fired from Yellowstone. In the weeks leading up to this interview, Gossip Cop reports that there were rumors that the actor was unhappy that he had to uproot his family to Montana to film the show's fourth season. Kevin's spokesperson later confirmed to Gossip Cop that the actor is "very proud of Yellowstone," and there isn't any truth to these rumors.

Even when Good Housekeeping caught up with Kevin in the midst of Yellowstone season 3, he confirmed that he was ready to get to work on the fourth season. He even shared a photo of himself on Instagram while filming season 4 in October.

He did, however, mention the coming season would be more difficult for him since he'd be away from his family for longer periods of time. "It puts me away from home. I go home every moment I can," he told us. "But this year, we're filming exclusively in Montana, which makes going home almost impossible."

But still, we think Yellowstone fans can rest assured Kevin is here to stay! Let's just hope that John Dutton makes it through all of the show's six seasons.
