Rumer Willis isn’t letting hurtful words get her down. She recently shared a thought-provoking and intimate new post reflecting on the “strength” and “healing” she’s experienced as a mom to baby Louetta “Lou” Isley, 8 months, which seems even more poignant after the recent backlash she’s received.

For a quick recap, the Sorority Row actress recently shared (then deleted) pictures of her baby and partner Derek Richard Thomas. “So grateful for my tiny family ✨,” the post was captioned. She included several photos of a winter trip filled with snow, while adding little heart emojis over baby Lou’s face to protect her privacy.

This made people furious for some reason, bombarding her with comments insisting that she shouldn’t “even bother posting” Lou if she won’t show her face. They were rude and totally uncalled for. She received so much hate that she ended up deleting the post altogether and adding a new one, this time with only one heart-emoji photo (and the rest not re-added at all).

Now, she is seemingly addressing the controversy and reflecting on her first year as a mom in a lengthy new Instagram post, which includes two photos of her naked in a bathtub. “Finding my way back to myself ….” Willis began. “Last year was incredibly dynamic, I grew a human being, gave birth at home (with no drugs) surrounded by my family.”

She continued, “Navigated a new relationship while being pregnant and postpartum, fell in love with the tiny love of my life Lou, softened, became less resistant to my own bullsh*t, threw pots on a wheel, did 6pm ocean swims 4x a week in the winter, learned about what real intimacy looks like, working on being the most honest authentic version of myself, healing my trauma so I don’t pass it on to my daughter, celebrated 7 years of sobriety … loved myself more than I ever have, felt more beautiful and comfortable in my skin than I ever have.”

It sounds amazing — well, besides the winter ocean swims (brrr!) — and powerful. She is discovering who she is as a mom and loving herself all the more for it, and we love to see it!

In the caption, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress shared that she “laughed, cried, fought, primal screamed, taken ownership, met new friends, wrote lullaby’s [sic] with my daughter’s dad, shared moments of wonder at the tiny being who chose us, spent precious love filled moments with my Daddio [Bruce Willis], learned from my mama [Demi Moore], celebrated my first Mother’s Day and found strength in myself I didn’t know existed.”

“I don’t know what this next year will bring but man I can’t wait to see what’s next,” she finished.

The comments were full of praise. Her partner, Thomas, wrote, “🔥🔥🔥 I love you 😘 ❤️❤️❤️.”

Peta Murgatroyd wrote, “Love you so much !!!!”

Soleil Moon Frye commented, “🩵❤️🩵❤️Love you SO very much beautiful love❤️🩵❤️🩵.”

“This made me cry happy tears. What a beautiful woman you are! Thank you Rumer!” someone else wrote.

“This is absolutely magnificent to hear as somebody that struggled for so long I totally know the space you’re in. So happy for you,” another commented.

Willis has made it through a tough year, but we are so proud of her for finding strength and healing within herself and ignoring the haters. She’s an inspiration to her daughter — and to all of us!

These celebrities overcame their childhood trauma to be better parents to their own children.
