Rumer Willis is stepping out of character to address the uncalled-for response to a list of new mom essentials she recently recommended.

The House Bunny star spoke with The Strategist to share some “bougie” products she’s been loving since welcoming her daughter Louetta. On September 24, the platform made a post on Instagram about her recommendations, and the comments were filled with hateful responses that went beyond criticizing Willis’ product picks to tearing her apart as a person.

People wrote nasty things including, “Nepo baby wish lists? She was never an it girl nor serious about her looks and beauty. I’ll pass.” Another rude person wrote, “You’ve definitely run out of material when you’re posting about the unaccomplished daughter of an actor & actress.” Other trolls commented, “My eyes rolled straight back into my head reading this,” “You’re sharing a list of stuff ‘you can’t live without’ like a 75 dollars candle and you expect that this bring joy to the people?” and “Rumor Willis is not a celebrity,” among more completely unmerited remarks.

On Thursday, Willis captured a screen recording scrolling through some of the unnecessary comments, and she shared it on her Instagram Story. The Dancing with the Stars champion then addressed the mom-shaming and hate directly, coming on camera to say, “So I would never normally post … what I just posted, but I felt inclined to just share because I was really taken aback at the level of negativity and just trolling.”

Willis added, “I mean I know that I should just come to expect this because it’s just what people do and think it’s okay to treat other people that way, but regardless of whether you like me or not or think I’ve accomplished anything in my life or not … I’m also just a human being who has feelings.”

“Attacking me is… I don’t know, I guess I just want to say I have feelings,” the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress said. “I’m a sensitive human being. I would really greatly appreciate it if you weren’t so nasty to me or weren’t so mean to me and allowed me the space to be a person who has worked, has done things, has accomplished, in my opinion, certain things that I’m really proud of in my life.”

Willis continued, “I’m still working and growing and trying to find kind of what my zone of excellence or the place that feels really good for me that I want to share. But I do know that one of the things that I love to share is finding things that bring me joy, finding things that I wanna share with other people that bring them joy, which was my intention in sharing [the list with The Strategist].”

She concluded, “I guess I wanna have this just be a reminder that even though you can label and call me a ‘nepo baby’ or whatever it is, I’m also just a person.”

In a subsequent Story, Willis posted a photo of herself, Louetta, and her partner Derek Richard Thomas. She wrote, “My life is a gift, I have never been happier and feel more in love than I have ever been. I have the most wonderful daughter beyond my wildest dreams. And my story is only just beginning…”

While we can certainly identify and empathize with not being able to afford many celebrity-recommended products, that doesn’t make it right or justified to attack people, Willis included. She’s allowed to share the tools she’s found helpful, and her suggestions are going to be appreciated by many other mothers. If you aren’t one of them, we suggest you follow the old adage your own mom likely told you: If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
