Happy birthday to Queen Camilla!

The royal turns 76 years old today, July 17, 2023. It is her first birthday as queen consort, and the British royal family is warmly celebrating her.

“A very happy birthday to Her Majesty The Queen!” Prince William and Princess Kate wrote on their Twitter alongside a pink birthday cake emoji and a photo of Camilla at the Wimbledon championships last week. They also shared the message on their Instagram Story.

The official royal family Twitter account also shared a portrait of a smiling Camilla. “Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very Happy Birthday today!” the caption reads.

Westminster Abbey—where Camilla and husband King Charles III were coronated in May—shared its congratulations as well.

“Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very Happy Birthday today!” read the post, accompanied by a photo of Camilla being crowned at the Anglican church.

In honor of the queen consort’s birthday, the abbey rang its bells for the first time since 2019. The ringing of the bells had been paused due to financial issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before 2020, the bells marked the birthdays of 12 royals: Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, now-King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, now-Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The bell schedule has changed since, but this year the bells are set to chime on several royal birthdays, as well as on the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death.
