What Royal Protocol? Kate Middleton's Worn Dark Nail Polish Before Too, You Guys

Hold thine royal horses, because this isn’t the first time a member of the monarchy has debuted a dark nail color.

While we were all in an uproar over whether Meghan Markle’s dark purple mani (which she debuted during her surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards) broke royal protocol, we almost forgot that Kate Middleton has donned darker polish colors in the past.

And, for the record, there’s no actual royal rule against wearing anything but nude or light pink on one’s royal phalanges. It’s just that the queen prefers light colored polish, and when at royal engagements, the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex tend to follow Her Majesty’s lead.

Yep, Middleton’s also rocked a darker polish, but only ever on her toes (at least, according to the photographs of her…she could’ve easily rocked a dark mani at times when she wasn’t in front of a camera).

Most recently, the duchess debuted a dark berry pedi in July 2017 with her trendy scalloped Prada heels for the opening of Hintze Hall at the Natural History Museum—and we're not the only ones thinking Middleton is more fashion forward than we give her credit for.

There you have it. Now, we'll just hold our breath 'til Middleton debuts a purple mani (and we don't think it'll be too much longer thanks to her sister-in-law's trailblazing ways).
