The final set of stamps to feature the silhouette of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II have been revealed, featuring the centenary of the Flying Scotsman steam locomotive.

The 12 farewell stamps feature the famous train in various locations around the UK, including Picking Station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the town of Blyth in Northumberland, and London's Victoria Station. Working closely with Bob Gwynne, Associate Curator at the National Railway Museum, the images were chosen from amongst hundreds of period photographs.

A further four stamps presented in a miniature sheet feature images of the Flying Scotsman and London North Eastern Railway poster artwork from the 1920s and 1930s.

The Queen's silhouette has been in constant use on Special Stamps since 1968. Stamp illustrator, David Gentleman, re-worked the Gillick Head silhouette, with the updated design still remaining in use until today.

Earlier this month, King Charles III's official postage stamp was unveiled. The definitive stamp, which was personally approved by the King, features the monarch's head on a plain coloured background. Unlike Queen Elizabeth II and George VI, the King is pictured with no crown or any other royal embellishment.
