Royal Family Releases Candid ‘Carriage Cam’ Footage of King Charles and Queen Camilla

King Charles and Queen Camilla just put a creative new spin on the year-end recap video trend, and we’re so here for it.

On New Year’s Day, the king, 75, and queen, 76, uploaded a 2023 highlight reel on the official royal family Instagram page. While many royal recap videos (like Prince William and Kate’s) typically follow the same format (i.e. a slideshow compiled of different pics and vids), this one started off slightly different.

At the start of the video, we’re greeted with a special carriage cam video featuring the royal couple. According to People, Charles and Camilla were apparently on their way to the State Opening of Parliament on November 7, 2023. While dressed in regal attire from head to toe, the pair can be seen waving to people from inside the Diamond Jubilee State Coach while heading to the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster.

Set to the upbeat tempo of Coldplay’s song “A Sky Full of Stars,” the video recaps numerous events and royal engagements the king and queen attended throughout the year. Of course, we’re treated to an array of photos taken at the monarch’s coronation ceremony. (Even Kate Middleton and Prince William make a small cameo too!)

Before the video comes to an end, royal enthusiasts are treated to a still image of King Charles’s new initials, “C.R” (the “R” stands for “Rex” which means “King” in Latin), being written across the sky in black. In the caption, the king and queen wrote, “#CarriageCam [crown and camera emoji]. Thank you for all the warm welcomes up and down the country, and around the world, in 2023. Wishing everyone a very happy 2024! [confetti emoji].”

The king and queen weren’t the only royal family members to post a recap video for 2023. Before entering the new year, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a recap video titled “This Was 2023” on IG. The reel also featured notable images, including the beautiful garden portrait of the couple taken at the royal wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and his new wife, Rajwa Alseif, in Amman. And, of course, the striking portrait taken at the 2023 Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace, where Catherine wore a gorgeous pink dress designed by Jenny Packham.

2023 was quite a year for us royally-obsessed fans.
