Christmas dinner is quite the undertaking for anyone, but for those entrusted with feeding the royal family, it's ridiculously difficult. Now, we've gotten some new insights into how the British Royal Family eats on Christmas Day, and turns out it's more over the top than you think.

Darren McGrady, who is one of Queen Elizabeth's former chefs, spilled the beans to Yahoo Style UK, according to Us Weekly. McGrady said prep for the holiday feast was intense, with him having to sift through "six or 10 cases of pears" just to find the 12 he was going to use. Quality is the name of the game!

Some of what he shared was to be expected (the staff had to make kids meals, the security was tight), but one of the most surprising things he revealed was the sheer magnitude of food needed to feed all the royals and everyone else invited to the annual Christmas lunch. He said it typically included "two dozen turkeys at nearly 30 pounds a pop, roast potatoes, boar’s head, foie gras, and Christmas puddings."

And it seems like everyone gets in on the Christmas fun...and I mean everyone. McGrady said his staff had to make a "royal corgi’s menu” for the queen's beloved pets to enjoy. In addition to feeding the royal family for lunch time, the kitchen was also responsible for preparing a Christmas dinner for the staff at Sandringham House, where the royal family typically spends the holidays.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may not be spending Christmas with the rest of the royals this year, but here's hoping their pups get a royal feast, too. Or some table scraps. That's good, too.
