The Royal Family Celebrates Australia Day on Instagram

Australia marked its official national day on Sunday, January 26 (fittingly, called Australia Day), and the royal family was quick to share celebratory messages on Instagram, joining in the Commonwealth country's festivities while also acknowledging the recent spate of wildfires.

Prince William and Kate Middleton kept it simple, posting a photo of themselves in Sydney, petting a koala. "Wishing all of our Australian followers a happy Australia Day!" the couple's comment read. "This year we pay tribute to the incredible strength and resilience of all the Australian people and communities who have been impacted by the devastating bushfires."

For their part, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared a post focused more on the recent wildfires. "Today, on Australia Day, we recognise the strength of spirit and generosity of the community Down Under," the comment read. Sharing above a selection of stories of how you’ve come together in the face of such adversity. You are an inspiration to us all." The accompanying slideshow featured a series of headlines about how Australians had stepped up to fight the natural disaster.

The main royal family account, which represents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip as well as several other Windsors who don't have their own handles, posted a sweet slideshow of the Queen in Australia. "Wishing you all a happy #AustraliaDay!" the comment read. "This Australia Day, we commend the incredible resilience and strength of the Australian people."

Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall also shared a message about Australians' resilience. "We both know how incredibly special and resilient the Australian people are," the comment said. "Sending heartfelt wishes to all our Australian followers on #AustraliaDay today."
