The Royal Family Accidentally Introduced Archie as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Son

Royal typos happen too.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry let the world in on their baby joy yesterday when they introduced little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor during a private photo call at Windsor Castle. The public rollout surrounding his arrival was pretty seamless—from the Instagram announcement and Prince Harry's sweet update to the quick photo shoot that included Markle's first public statements as a new mom.

But there was one snafu: a (since-deleted) typo on the official royal family website that identified Archie as the “first child of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge," a.k.a. Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Of course, there are those who will try to find deeper meaning in the moment and call it a slight to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. But it was obviously just a typo that was quickly corrected. Royal reporter Omid Scobie tweeted, "I think I speak for all of us who have been working on the Baby Sussex story when I say that mistakes happen to the best of us when we’re tired!" As someone who writes about the royal family often—and is quite clear on who the Sussexes and the Cambridges are—I can attest that it's an easy slip-up to make, especially as news is coming fast. Royal staffers, they're just like us!

People on social media had some fun with the mistake. "Hmmmm, another new twist 😂😂🤣😭 has anyone informed the Cambridge[s] I have a funny feeling they don't know😂😂," one user wrote on Twitter. "PLOT TWIST," joked the Fug Girls.

Typo aside, it's been an exciting few days for the royal family, and we're sure Aunt Kate and Uncle William are very excited to meet little Archie and introduce him to their actual children: Prince George (who may have secretly given away his cousin's name months ago), Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis
