Congratulations are in order! The Swedish royal family will be getting a new addition soon. Princess Sofia, the wife of Prince Carl Philip, is pregnant with the couple’s second child, the Royal Court of Sweden has confirmed.
“We are happy to announce that we are expecting a child, a sibling to Prince Alexander. We are looking forward to welcoming a new little member to our family,” Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia said in an official announcement.
Prince Carl Philip, who is the second child and only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, married Sofia Hellqvist in June of 2015. Hellqvist had been known in Sweden beforehand, thanks to her career as a model and as a reality television star. In April of last year, the couple welcomed their first child, Prince Alexander, who received a christening in September.
Prince Carl Philip’s sisters, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine, each have two children of their own as well. A royal brood of six grandchildren, by the end of the year.
