Route 66: Best road trip in North America, Instagram data shows
(KSNF/KODE) — The official start of the summer road trip season is just around the corner. The Friday before Memorial Day is National Road Trip Day. This year it falls on May 24, and is meant to celebrate the freedom of road trips. It also encourages people to unplug and reconnect with the world around them.
In honor of National Road Trip Day, Betway analyzed the best road trips across the U.S. and Canada to find out the most popular routes.
Using Instagram and the number of hashtags for each road trip route, it can be revealed that the world-renowned Route 66 — also known as “The Mother Road” — tops the ranking.

Spanning a total of 2,448 miles across eight states, Route 66 covers a large portion of the U.S. and is the top road trip in North America, with #route66 having 2,211,835 posts on Instagram.
The next most popular road trip takes place along the southernmost part of the U.S.
Spanning 120 miles, the Florida Keys was a narrow second in the rankings with its picturesque scenes along the way, totaling 2,164,767 hashtags across the social media platform.

Rounding up the top three is the Canadian Rockies — the highest Canadian road trip in the rankings.
The mountain range spans across British Columbia and Alberta — including peaks such as Mount Robson and Mount Columbia — which resulted in 1,292,755 posts.
The U.S. has two more road trips routes in the top five, including Blue Ridge Parkway (703,308) and Acadia National Park Loop (609,572).
