Rosie O’Donnell Is Engaged to Girlfriend Elizabeth Rooney
Comedian Rosie O’Donnell is engaged to Elizabeth Rooney, the TV personality announced Tuesday, October 23. The comic shared her relationship status update with People at an event, confirming her engagement after weeks of speculation.
“She’s very much an equal,” O’Donnell expressed. “She’s very much her own person and loves what she does. She’s a pretty unbelievable young woman.”
The two are currently experiencing a long-distance relationship—Rooney, a police officer, lives in Boston, while O’Donnell calls New York her home—and they have no immediate plans to wed.
“This is a long time in the future. We both decided that that would be best,” she added.

O’Donnell and Rooney, 33, went public with their relationship a year ago in November 2017.
“I keep telling her I’m too old for her,” O’Donnell added in the same interview of their 23-year age gap. “But she doesn’t seem to care. She’s like, ‘I was in the Army! I put my life on the line every day you think I don’t know who I want to date?’ I’m like, ‘Alright I guess that’s true.’ She has a lot of good points.”
This will be the third marriage for O’Donnell, who was previously married to consultant Michelle Rounds. Sadly, Rounds died of an apparent suicide at age 46 a little over a year ago. They share one child together.
O’Donnell also shares four kids with her first wife, Kelli Carpenter-O’Donnell.
