Kevin Spacey's controversial statement in response to Anthony Rapp's allegations of sexual assault is being slammed by other big names in Hollywood.

After BuzzFeed published a report detailing Rapp's story, Spacey took to Twitter to say he was "beyond horrified to hear his story" and that he does "not remember the encounter."

"If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology," he continued. "This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life. [...] I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man."

Many took Spacey's coming out as a strategic deflection from Rapp's allegations that he made a drunken sexual advance toward him when he was 14.

"No no no no no!" Comedian Wanda Sykes wrote. "You do not get to 'choose' to hide under the rainbow! Kick rocks!"

"Star Trek" actor Zachary Quinto also took Spacey to task over his statement, saying "it is deeply sad and troubling that this is how Kevin Spacey has chosen to come out."

"I am sorry to hear of Anthony Rapp's experience and subsequent suffering," Quinto continued. "And I am sorry that Kevin only saw fit to acknowledge his truth when he thought it was serve him -- just as his denial served him for so many years."
