Rosewood Hotels & Resorts Will Make Its New Zealand Debut by the End of the Year
The luxury hospitality company is taking over three established resorts in New Zealand — two on North Island and one on South Island — on Dec. 1, 2023.

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is expanding its footprint Down Under. Starting Dec. 1, the brand behind iconic properties including New York City’s The Carlyle and Paris’s Hôtel de Crillon will make its debut in the Oceania region by taking over management of Robertson Lodges, a collection of three established resorts spread across New Zealand.

The northernmost hotel will be Rosewood Kauri Cliffs, sitting on 6,000 acres in view of the Pacific Ocean near the Bay of Islands. With 26 rooms and suites, guests will have access to three private beaches, sheep and cattle farms, native forests, a fitness center, a spa, and an 18-hole golf course.
On the east coast of North Island, Rosewood Cape Kidnappers will be in an area known for its food and wine scene. “Perched atop the rolling hills and rugged cliffs of this fertile countryside, the property is set against expansive views where the ocean meets the horizon,” the hospitality company said in a release.
Guests who stay in the 24 rooms and suites can experience farm tours, nature walks, the spa, an infinity pool, and golfing on a course designed by Tom Doak. Also in the area is Cape Sanctuary, the largest privately funded wildlife restoration in the country.
Completing the trio will be an inland South Island resort called Rosewood Matakauri, in a Queenstown alpine lake setting, among three tremendous peaks: The Remarkables, Cecil, and Walter Peak. Here, snow sports dominate in the winter while hiking, wine tours, and the arts thrive year-round.
The Robertson Lodges were founded in 2001 by philanthropists Julian and Josie Robertson in 2001, becoming some of the most beloved luxury boutique stays in the island nation.

All three New Zealand resorts will reopen as Rosewoods on Dec. 1, 2023. Rosewood is continuing to expand its global reach, with Rosewood Munich opening this fall, the Rosewood Amsterdam and Rosewood Schloss Fuschl coming in 2024, The Chancery Rosewood in London's Mayfair scheduled for 2025, and a new build, Rosewood Seoul, planned for 2027.
