Rose McGowan Sounds Off on Hollywood Actresses for "Silent Protest"
Earlier in the week, news broke that many big-name actresses, including Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, and Jessica Chastain, are planning to wear black to the 2018 Golden Globes, which are coming up at the beginning of January. This isn't just the latest color trend — the women are donning black as a symbolic form of protest against harassment in Hollywood.
However, not everyone thinks this "silent protest" is enough. On Saturday, actress Rose McGowan, one of the many Hollywood women to accuse producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, took to Twitter to call out Streep and her fellow protesters, writing that "silence is the problem."
"Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest," McGowan tweeted. "YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change."
"I despise your hypocrisy," she continued bitingly. "Maybe you should all wear Marchesa."
Weinstein's estranged wife, Georgina Chapman, is the founder of the fashion brand Marchesa.

Streep spoke out against Weinstein when the first allegations of assault surfaced, writing in a statement that the “women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes,” according to People.
Streep and the other Golden Globe nominees have yet to respond to McGowan's comments.
