Rosanna Arquette feels 'lucky' when it comes to Harvey Weinstein

None of Harvey Weinstein’s victims were “lucky,” but one actress does feel that she dodged a bullet. Rosanna Arquette, who opened up about being sexually assaulted by the movie mogul in October’s New Yorker exposé, said in a Build interview Monday, “I was lucky, I was not raped.”

“[It] was disgusting enough, and I said, ‘No thanks.’ And he goes, ‘You’re making a big mistake, Rosanna, look what I did for two major [women] — one an Oscar winner and one a very big model,’” she recalled. “And I said, ‘I’ll never be that girl,’ and I left, and that was it.” Compared with other women he attacked, she feels relatively fortunate.

Addressing whether actors in Hollywood trade sex for parts, Arquette said that wasn’t her experience. “Maybe there are people that have done that — who knows what happens behind closed doors? — but the women that are coming forward who we’re talking about were raped. And they were, and that’s it. And so, he can deny it all he wants. … They are very traumatized … nobody’s making this up.”

Arquette admits that sexual relationships are a “part of the system” within the entertainment industry — but she’s determined to combat it.

“I’m focusing more on the behavior of pedophiles and rapists, and I think it definitely is waking men up to not behave disrespectfully to women anymore, period.”

In such dark times, Arquette admitted that it’s OK to have an escape, and her new YouTube series, Sideswiped, a comedy about family and romance, provided that for her. “We laugh a lot,” she said of herself and her castmates. “And we need to laugh in this time; we all could use some light humor. There’s a lot of anxiety in the world, so it’s nice to have an escape.”
