Rosé Wine Cases and Flip Flops Take the Runway

Behold, Japanese model Chiharu Okunugi with an amazing accessory: a full bottle of rosé, cradled in a golden cage. Designer Brandon Maxwell dreamed it up for his Spring 2019 collection, an ode to Texas beauty where the heels, the hair, and the price tags all reach staggering heights. We thought Peak Rosé™ hit last season (remember the rosé deodorant with a waiting list?) but it looks like pretty pink booze will never fade from fashion.
Also not fading: Bella Hadid's tan lines, which peeked out of her Brandon Maxwell dress and pushed the look to another level of jet set glamour.
Wine is universally beloved, and so are the thoughtfully cool outfits by Aussie designer Dion Lee. But today's runway show sparked some style debates, as several models stomped the catwalk in plain plastic flip flops-a point of objection for Leah, especially in New York City's grimy summer streets. I love them with the cobalt blue suit, though!
Next Thursday, Fashion Week officially ends-and the primary for New York State Governor officially begins. Ahead of the vote, Christian Siriano invited Cynthia Nixon to share the front row with Judith Light, Tiffany Haddish, and Whoopi Goldberg, and included her campaign brief on every show seat. Kate Moss made a front row appearance at Longchamp for Sophie Delafontaine's first runway collection, which was packed with fringe jackets, embroidered tulle, and festival season staples. It was cool, if unexpected (have you ever seen a Longchamp bag at Coachella?) but as usual, Kate was the coolest.
Here is Kaia Gerber in the R13 Denim show wearing a tie dye Grateful Dead tee and a matching blazer. As the child of hippies in bourgeois Boston, I often wore tees and hoodies like this to summer camp or soccer practice. You can still get them on Etsy, and the blazer too (for $140!). As for Kaia, I hope she has my favorite album, Workingman's Dead, to go with her far out runway look.
Eckhaus Latta's show featured a kiddie orchestra, sheer sweaters, and a seriously amazing dress.
They also had the best look I've seen at NYFW this season, created by artist Kanako Takase. The crystallized marble pout is made with tons of M.A.C Lipglass, and carefully painted streaks of Kryolan professional pigment. Here it is on show-closer Sela Marley... now go get a drink.
