Rooney Mara Picks Dior For Her First Cannes Red Carpet With Joaquin Phoenix
Rooney Mara’s style has always erred on the eclectic side, as she easily pulls off everything from Riccardo Tisci’s goth Givenchy girl to Valentino’s sweeping romance. Case in point: Last night, at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony, the actress was joined by her rumored beau Joaquin Phoenix, and chose a surprisingly delicate Dior dress for the occasion.
This year’s red carpet has seen the return of overtly feminine gowns—see Nicole Kidman in Calvin Klein By Appointment’s balletic frock, Elle Fanning’s wide array of princess confections, and Isabelle Huppert’s streamlined silhouettes. Mara’s optic white silk embroidered dress fell right in line with this new approach to polish, thanks to its prim collar, but received a sultry twist through its sheer fabric. She then boosted the vintage Hollywood vibes with subdued accessories, in the form of a tassel clutch and simple stilettos.
