My New Sundays Storage Bed Is My Best FriendSundays

Up until a few months ago, my fiancé and I had been sleeping on the same bed frame we bought (at a popular furniture store that I shall not name but you’re definitely thinking of) when we first moved in together more than six years ago. And to say it was hanging on by a thread is truly not an exaggeration. It was missing several screws, had many dings, and the wood pegs we used to put the pieces together way back when were almost all broken in two. Long story short: It was time for a new one.

But when I started scouring the internet (as I do 23 hours a day) for something to replace Old Faithful, I was stumped. And I don’t use that word lightly. Or ever. You see, our old bed had built-in drawers underneath that we used to hold a lot of our clothes. But when I was googling “bed frame with drawers,” honestly not a lot was coming up...and those that did were pretty darn ugly. But I knew we needed a bed with storage, because our NYC one-bedroom is lacking in the square footage department (a tale as old as time).

So I decided instead to google “storage beds,” and that’s when I first saw the Sundays Cloud Bed with Storage. It’s a stunning bed frame with a hydraulic lift mechanism (that your mattress sits on top of) that pulls up and lets you store an ungodly amount of crap in the space between your floor and your mattress. Spoiler alert: I promptly fell in love and had to have it.

Let me tell you, this bed has it all: chic bouclé upholstery, a low-slung silhouette, comfy built-in back pillows, and, of course, so much storage space it could make a grown woman cry tears of joy (it’s me, I’m woman). Should you get one for yourself? Probably. Should you read my pros and cons first so you can make an informed decision? Def. Should you do so quickly because it’s 10 percent off right now for Sundays’ Memorial Day Sale? Abso-freakin’-lutely.

Pros

It comes with top-notch free delivery.

If you haven’t yet heard of Sundays, the Vancouver-based furniture brand known for modern and durable designs, allow me to put you on with this one fact: Every product—literally every single product—they sell comes with free delivery. And most come with free in-home assembly too. And that’s for all of the continental U.S. and a lot of Canada! The team reached out to me via text to set up a delivery window (the first time didn’t work, so they gave me another one, no questions asked) and showed up with three strong men and a buncha boxes. In less than 20 minutes, they had completely set up the bed, cleaned up any mess they created while building, took the empty boxes down to my recycling room, and were on their way. Now that, my friends, is service.

It stores so (!) damn (!) much (!).

Think about it: a mattress takes up a lot of surface area. Especially a queen or king, which are the two available sizes. So you can fit a hell of a lot of stuff in the storage compartment underneath it. And my, oh, my, is it a beautiful thing. After the bed was all set up, I promptly decided to reorganize my entire apartment (and life, in the process) and fill the compartment with a bunch of stuff I don’t use every day, like suitcases, craft supplies, extra bedding and linens, and even some off-season clothing and candles. I stuffed it so full, I was worried it might not close, but the hydraulic mechanism clicked right into place. The best part? I couldn’t feel a thing when I promptly decided to lie down on top of the mattress to make sure no lumps and bumps were poking through. And I cannot emphasize how big my sigh of relief was when I realized I could see my floor again.

It’s easier to lift than you’d think.

No, really. I’m weak, and I can pull up the hydraulic mechanism with just one hand on days when I’m feeling strong. If you need to store things you’ll require every day in there, it’s actually totally doable.

It’s chic as hell.

I mean...just look at it. I don’t think I even need to explain this one. The frame is so sleek and the upholstery is so soft, with a nubby cream fabric that is on-trend right now, but timeless at the same damn time. The bouclé is a blend of different tones and textures of yarn, so it looks super luxe and expensive—kinda like a good hair color job. If neither cream nor bouclé match your bedroom aesthetic, don’t fear. The bed frame is also available in the colors Stone (a light gray) and Putty (a moody charcoal), both upholstered in a less nubby, but still textured, fabric.

It comes with built-in back cushions.

Everyone knows that beds are for more than just sleeping...they’re also for TV watching, snack eating, book reading, and general lounging. (What did you think I was gonna say? Get your head outta the gutter!) This bed comes with two plush back cushions—which stay in place thanks to Velcro—so you’re always at the perfect angle when leaning back and relaxing. No towers of throw pillows required!

Cons

It’s not cheap.

I mean, I don’t know about you, but $2,450 doesn’t just come out of my bank account without me noticing. It’s a solid chunk of change—that’s why you're reading about it here, in our Cosmo Luxe section. But listen, I know you’ve heard the phrase “you get what you pay for” a million times over, and it’s true. Furniture pieces with prices that are too good to be true are often just that. And there’s nothing worse than pulling your inexpensive find out of the box and finding it’s damaged, scuffed, uncomfortable, or, worst of all, just plain ugly. That’s not going to happen here. Sundays’ stuff is top quality, and my god, I’d pay through the nose for that incredible delivery any day. (No, really, I don’t know how I’m supposed to go back to the regular “we’ll throw it in your lobby whenever we feel like it” service.)

It’s often on preorder.

Good things come to those who wait, and that’s the case with this bed. I had been looking at it for about a year before I finally pulled the trigger, and it was on preorder pretty much every time I peeped it on the Sundays website. (It's currently on preorder right now, fwiw.) The good news is you can still buy it, and they’ll give you an estimated delivery time, typically within two to five months, depending on what size and color you want. I placed my order in early August and it came in late November, to give you a little timeline. Personally, I thought the wait was more than worth it. But if you need something ASAP, this might not be the bed for you.

The bottom line

If you’ve been meaning to invest in your sleep/home/life, you simply can’t go wrong with this bed. It’ll cost you a pretty penny, but can you really put a price on comfort? My bedroom is truly so much more organized now that I have this bad boy, and it’s so chic, it honestly looks like a whole new room. I also find myself reading more often, because the back pillows are so damn inviting. Watch out, TBR list!!! All in all, the Sundays Cloud Bed with Storage is Cosmo-editor-approved. And that’s that on that. 🫡
