‘The Rookie’ Star Richard T. Jones Just Gave a Huge Update About Season 6

Sound the police siren, because it seems that season 6 of The Rookie is officially in production!

The hit ABC drama paused for new installments earlier this year to accommodate for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for fair contracts. As both unions cemented their deals in September and November respectively, the show's social team used a video on Instagram to celebrate both Thanksgiving and the fact that the cast was back on set filming episodes for season 6.

"What I'm thankful for is my wife, I'm thankful for my children," said Richard T. Jones (who portrays Sergeant Wade Grey) in a video montage posted on November 23. "I'm thankful for The Rookie cast. I love everyone here. I'm thankful that we are back at work and we are doing our thing. I'm thankful for so much and I'm thankful for the fans, I'll tell you. Keep watching!"

Because the timing for when The Rookie would start filming was up in the air, it wasn't long before Richard's subtle comment caused excitement among longtime fans.

"Come on back [y'all]! We’re waiting," one person exclaimed on Instagram. "OMG I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOUR FACES AGAIN!!" another screamed in the comments. "So pumped up for the new season! 😁," a different follower replied.

Alongside that piece of news, The Rookie also gave a huge update on when viewers can expect to see the new episodes on the air. In another video uploaded on Instagram on November 16, the show announced that season 6 will officially premiere on ABC starting Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 9 p.m. ET.

"We’ve been on the edge of our seats, and answers are coming! 🤩," read the official caption. "An all-new season of #TheRookie premieres Tuesday, February 20 on ABC and Stream on Hulu!"

We seriously can't wait until we can step back into Mid-Wilshire very soon!
