These Romantic, Sexy Texts Are So Much Better Than 'Hey'
There’s no better feeling than seeing that person’s contact pop up on your phone screen—especially when the notification is accompanied by one of those patented “good morning” texts or a sweet “wish you were here” message.
Here’s the thing, though: It’s not always quite so simple for the person on the sending end. Maybe your partner is a little, ahem, inept at communicating their feelings, or life (and its demands) took hold, and suddenly, your back-and-forth looks more like a logistics conversation between two co-workers. The habit of sending a simple, romantic text can sometimes go by the wayside once you’ve graduated out of the honeymoon phase—but it shouldn’t.
“Most people don’t want to feel like they are in a roommate situation instead of a romantic, sexy partnership,” says Patrice Le Goy, PhD, LMFT, a marriage and family therapist based in Los Angeles. Sexy, romantic texts are an easy way to keep the spark alive. “It’s something that your partner can read more than once and keep that feeling of excitement and being connected—whether it’s a simple ‘just thinking about you,’ or a more detailed ‘you looked so sexy this morning, and I can’t wait to see you tonight.’”
How do you incorporate these romantic texts into your routine, though? Basically, “you have to find what works for your relationship,” Le Goy says. “The goal isn’t to create extra work for anyone. Just try to notice when the text messages have moved away from your relationship and have become completely focused on tasks and scheduling. That might be a good time to change the pattern of your communication.”
