The secret to the best sugar cookies isn't in the dough. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise. We all know the store-bought, refrigerated kind (the one that comes as a tube) is legit. So use it and bake with pride! Alas, the key to winning the holiday cookie game is Rolos.

Because when you place the gold foil-wrapped candy on top of a frosted sugar, it looks like an ornament, especially if the cookie is decorated with festive sprinkles and/or mini M&Ms. Sadly we can't claim the idea as our own - we discovered it on Pinterest.

Your Cup Of Cake blog, who is as far as we're concerned the genius behind the Rolo ornament method, makes her cookies and icing from scratch and meticulously decorates with M&Ms. And we admire her for it. We, however, went the more easier (read: lazier) route and used pre-made dough and canned frosting. We also threw on a bunch of sprinkles. While the color coordinated M&Ms look stunning, they're kind of a pain to perfectly place, logo side-down, in neat little rows.

The process here is pretty obvious, but we do have one word of caution. Try to bake the cookies as perfectly round as possible. The best method: use a small cookie scoop (or a tablespoon) to evenly measure the dough then roll it into balls. This should help, but even if it doesn't, and your cookies turn out funky and oblong. Who cares? Ornaments come in all shapes and sizes.
