Roland Mouret RTW Spring 2023

Imagine if in 2005 — when Roland Mouret’s figure-enhancing Galaxy Dress was making headlines from London to Los Angeles, worn by Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller, Scarlett Johansson and many, many more — it had been available at a contemporary instead of a luxury price point?

Ka-ching.

That’s the idea behind the newly relaunched Roland Mouret label, now backed by Han Chong, founder and owner of London contemporary brand Self Portrait, who is codesigning with Mouret.

The second collection by the duo was shown in Paris on Tuesday, when retailers and Hollywood stylists alike dropped by Le Bristol for a peek at the spring lineup, with prices from 295 to 1,395 pounds.

Though there’s no Galaxy Dress per se (all the styles are numbered, for now), there are plenty of flourishes in the collection that OG Mouret fans will recognize, and today’s body-con obsessed will love, including sheath dresses in mini and maxi lengths, with wide set straps, tiny cap sleeves, cutout bra tops or folded necklines; sexy jumpsuits, and versatile pants suits in punchy colors.

Several pieces had a tidal wave-shaped sleeve detail Mouret said was an ode to Pierre Cardin and which gave the pared back collection a Parisian verve.

Mouret is working in similar fabrics as before, including wool crepe, silk and wool, viscose and jersey, and his famous suck-you-in fit continues to be paramount. “I lost everything this year and from doing that, I learned what I owned — fit and a relationship between the outfit and the woman when she wears it,” he said.
