Rod Stewart is clearing the air about claims he's retiring.

The 78-year-old award-winning singer-songwriter confused fans earlier this month after suggesting he would be "moving on" from rock 'n' roll music.

"I'd like to clear up any confusion that I may have caused with my dear fans and the media," Stewart wrote in a statement shared via Instagram on Wednesday, June 21. "I shall never retire! I was put on this earth to be a singer and will keep doing so for as long as the good Lord lets me."

The "Maggie May" crooner also confirmed that he would "be playing the hits as advertised" for the U.K., U.S., South America and Vegas tours scheduled through 2024.

Stewart's statement continued, "During recent interviews, I've mentioned my newest passion is big band/swing music and when we wrap this greatest hits tour, it's something I'm very eager to share with you."

But his expedition into new territory doesn't mean he's calling it quits for the sound his fans have come to love.

"I could never turn my back on the songs that I've written and sung over the last six decades," he added. "They are like my children. I created them and I love them. I'll always come back to them, just like I did after The Great American Songbook series, which I shall boastfully add, sold 26 million albums!"

"I look forward to seeing you on the road with all the hits," Stewart concluded, adding, "and I can't wait to introduce you to my new swing album next year."

The entertainer is currently gearing up for the start of his U.K. tour with Boy George, which kicks off on Saturday, June 24, and includes stops in Northampton, Durham, Bristol and Hull.
