Before he was known simply as The Rock, Dwayne Johnson tried out a few other alter egos on his way to dominating the world of pro wrestling. One of those in-ring personas, he revealed in the caption of a new Instagram photo today, was “Flex Kavana.”

To his credit, the Rock is quick to acknowledge that the nickname needed work. “Hey, I thought it was cool at the time,” he writes. “And I was making a GUARANTEED $40 bucks per match. I was broke as hell, passionate and gave it all I got—having NOOO IDEA the long, windy, unpredictable road that lay ahead.”

The image shows a Polaroid, addressed to a young fan named Mitchell, urging him to "FLEX!" In the photo, The Rock has his arm slung around Mitchell while donning his signature '90s fannypack over a pair of jorts. The look echoes his famously meme-worthy throwback photo from 1994, which Johnson recreated in 2017 before hosting Saturday Night Live. Understandably, it seems to have put The Rock in a bit of a nostalgic mood—but as always, his self-deprecating sense of humor remained in tact.

“Sounds crazy but looking back at this time—these nights of wrestling at flea markets, fairs, high school gyms, used car dealerships etc...this is where I learned the value of always taking care of the audience and sending them home happy,” he wrote.

“And for $5 you can go home happy too, just like Mitchell here and take a polaroid with your favorite wrestler…wearing jorts and a cool ass leather fanny pack hanging low. F*ck 🤦🏽♂️ Sorry Mitchell.. I owe you one 👊🏾🥃”
