The Rock Says It Would Be an 'Honor' to Serve as President of the U.S.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson might not have any immediate plans to run for President of the United States, but he's given it some thought. The actor took to social media this week and gave his thoughts on what a Johnson presidency might be like, following the publication of a new survey which indicated that nearly half of Americans are keen to see him in the White House.
The poll was summarized in a Newsweek article as having found that "at least 46 percent of Americans would support a presidential run" from Johnson. Other celebrities whose presidential campaigns had hypothetical public support included Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie, and Tom Hanks. "The poll found that 29 percent would support campaigns by both Johnson for president and actor Matthew McConaughey for Texas governor," wrote Newsweek's Aila Slisco, alluding to McConaughey's recent remarks that he is "considering" running for office.
"Humbling," Johnson wrote of the poll on Instagram. "I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club - but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people."
Johnson has never directly spoken about his political ambitions, and only recently openly showed his support for a specific political party, giving his endorsement to now-President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign during the 2021 election. However, he has repeatedly (albeit obliquely) shown a clear interest and passion in current affairs, most notably during last year's Black Lives Matter protests, when he shared an emotional call for justice and equality in the aftermath of George Floyd's death.
He also criticized then-President Trump's leadership, and encouraged people to "become the leaders we're looking for."
"I am like the majority of Americans," he said at the time. "I'm not a politician, and I've never, clearly, been elected to office, and I am not the President of the United States. But I am a man and I am a father who cares so deeply about my family, my children, and the world they will live in. I care so deeply about our country and every single person in it. I am a man who is frustrated and disappointed. I am angry. But I am also doing my best to stay focused, and as calm as I possibly can be, to make the best decisions for my family and make the best decisions for our country."
