The Rock Just Shared a Sneak Peak at 'Jumanji 3'
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has shared a first look at the cast of the upcoming sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, slated for a December 2019 release.
In an Instagram post, Johnson informed fans that their “favorite band is back”-and that “things may not be what they seem.”
Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Johnson are all featured in the photo, reprising their roles as video game characters Franklin Finbar, Ruby Roundhouse, Professor Oberon, and Dr Bravestone. As in 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle (which was itself a sequel to the 1995 classic), each of these characters is an avatar for a teenager who is playing the game in real life.

Nick Jonas will also be returning as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonaugh, another avatar for one of the teenage characters. New additions to the cast include screen legends Danny DeVito and Danny Glover, as well as rapper-turned-actress Awkwafina, fresh from her breakout roles in 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean’s 8.
When a sequel to Jumanji was first announced, fans were sceptical that the magic of the original could be recaptured a full two decades later. However, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, which transposed the action from a board game to a video game, was a box office hit. It grossed $962 million globally, overtaking 2002’s Spider-Man as the most successful movie released by Sony Pictures, and garnered positive reviews for its crowd-pleasing action and charming cast.
A follow-up to Welcome To The Jungle was announced in January 2018, to be directed by Jake Kasdan, and filming began in Hawaii the following April. The as-yet-untitled threequel is currently scheduled for a December 13 release.
