The Rock Formally Invites Frances McDormand into His Marriage

When one national treasure loves another national treasure very much . . .

What does Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson love? He loves his daughters, two of whom are in the world and a third who’s on the way. He still loves smelling what he’s cooking, presumably. He loves “the troops.” And he loves Oscar-winning, inclusion-rider advocate Frances McDormand. And when one national treasure loves another national treasure very much, a daytime-show talking point is born.

“I love Frances as we all do,” the Rock told a third national treasure, Ellen DeGeneres, on Ellen for a segment that aired Tuesday. After McDormand won the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama for her role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, “[s]he goes up to speak, and right before she speaks, she turns around and walks to the back of the stage and shakes Simone‘s hand out of the blue. It just blew me away because no one did that.” His 16-year-old daughter, Simone, was this year’s Golden Globes Ambassador, and was charged with directing a stream of actors lousy with adrenaline off the stage after their speeches.

“[Frances] had the awareness to do that to my 16-year-old daughter,” he continued. “She thanked everyone and turned around, thanked her. She gave her speech, now as she’s walking off, Frances grabs Simone‘s hand, and she has the Globe in this hand, she has Simone‘s hand in this hand, she kisses Simone‘s hand, and I was like Jesus. . . . I’ve been meaning to call her and tell her, but now that I’m here, I gotta tell you, Ellen, I got a little crush on Frances.”

Ellen’s audience has no clue what to do with this information, but perhaps they were busy filing away “be nice to the Rock’s kids” under the What to do when I would like the Rock to fall hard for me section of their mental filing cabinets. Their pregnant pause doesn’t deter the Rock, because he looked straight to the camera and addressed McDormand directly, “We’re gonna have to exchange numbers because just between you and I—I know nobody else is watching—we’re gonna get married. It’s not gonna be weird, [his wife] Lauren‘s down with it.”

No word on whether McDormand’s husband, Joel Coen, is also down with it, but still: looking forward to hearing more about Hollywood’s most winning thruple!
