Fans don't have too much longer to wait before The Batman is released, and anticipation for the new movie is almost palpable. In truth, it's been that way for almost three years now – ever since the film was announced and certainly since Robert Pattinson was unveiled as its star.

That's understandable. A new interpretation of the character is exciting because fans don't really know what to expect, which is why, for better or worse, even the smallest tidbit of information is seized upon.

That's what happened back in May 2020 when Pattinson revealed that unlike his predecessors Christian Bale and Ben Affleck who trained in Wing Chun Kung Fu and adopted 'chaos training' to play the Caped Crusader, he was taking an altogether different approach.

"I think if you're working out all the time, you're part of the problem," Pattinson said in an interview with GQ. "You set a precedent. No one was doing this in the '70s. Even James Dean, he wasn't exactly ripped."

In that same interview, Pattinson explained how he had been given a Bosu ball and some weights to work out with, but was "barely doing anything" with them.

However, now, in an interview with MovieMaker, Pattison has expressed contrition for his earlier comments and assured fans that his Batman will be as shredded and strong as the Dark Knights that have come before him.

“That really came back to haunt me,” Pattinson said about his workout 'joke'. “I just always think it’s really embarrassing to talk about how you’re working out. I think it’s like an English thing. Unless you are in the most unbelievable shape, where people are just genuinely curious, going, ‘How have you achieved, like, physical perfection?’ or whatever.”

“You’re playing Batman," Pattinson said, "you have to work out. I think I was doing the interview when I was in lockdown, as well, in England…I was in a lower gear of working out.”

Rather than not working out, Pattinson has in fact been putting in some serious work, which includes training with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Master, Rigan Machado.

You can see whether all that work has paid off when The Batman opens in theatres nationwide on March 4.
