Robert Pattinson Is Dressing for the Role of a Lifetime: Fatherhood

Robert Pattinson is expecting his first child with fiancée Suki Waterhouse, but he’s been dressing like a dad forever. Weekend-warrior athleisure. Enormous khaki cargo shorts. Perpetual bedhead. Now that he’s gearing up for actual fatherhood, however, RPatz is leaning even further into his new role on the fashion front.
Pattinson is in New York City this week to film a new commercial for Dior, for whom he’s been a brand ambassador since 2013. While the actor is sporting a hunky leather bomber in the luxury ad spot, the real-life RPatz kept warm between takes in a dusted Patagonia parka, which he wore with the hood up and zipped to just beneath his chin. Dads love practical outerwear, and Pattinson’s mustard-yellow, slightly grubby jacket certainly looks warm enough to withstand the February chill here in the Big Apple. Plus, it looks just cooked enough to give the illusion that it’s survived its fair share of dad chores like bringing in the newspaper (ink side out) or carrying the trash out to the curb.
On a convenience-store run in Los Angeles a few days earlier, Pattinson tested out another dad-to-be ensemble in a different climate: a tan quarter-zip pullover layered over a dark green tee, a logoless trucker hat, and knee-length Adidas athletic shorts. He may as well have been picking up some dad essentials, like a new-car-scent Little Tree air freshener or a packet of peanut M&M’s.
And RPatz still looks this exceedingly casual even when he is sure to run into the paparazzi, as was the case in December when he attended a Manhattan screening of the Yorgos Lanthimos film Poor Things alongside Waterhouse and the most photographed woman in the world, Taylor Swift. Photographers caught the group as they exited the Directors Guild Theatre in Midtown. Waterhouse wore a sheer white top and coordinating satin trousers, while Swift donned a dramatic Mongolian-wool-trimmed jacket and a red lip. Between them was Pattinson, dressed as daddish as ever in a nondescript baseball cap, red checkered shirt, and gum-soled Adidas trainers. Looking good, RPopz.
