Robert Pattinson Discussed Becoming "Batman” In an Interview with “Variety”

After reported rumors and even the support of Jaden Smith, Robert Pattinson has officially earned his uh, bat wings, and will star in Christopher Nolan's upcoming Batman film. However, the former Twilight star wasn't exactly thrilled when the news leaked to the Internet.

Speaking with Variety in a new interview, the actor said he was concerned when news of casting was revealed online before it was made official. "When that thing leaked, I was f*cking furious,” he said. “Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing.”

Luckily, the Internet's sleuthing didn't ruin Robert's chances at the role as Variety reported in June that Robert was confirmed for the role. And though we'll have to wait until 2021 to see Robert don the signature Batman cape, he did share what the fitting process for becoming a superhero included. “It’s maybe the craziest thing I’ve ever done in terms of movie stuff,” he said. "You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’”

The film is one of Robert's largest starring roles since Twilight, and he told Variety that was intentional, as he avoided "big movies" following the vampire saga, explaining that he wanted time out of the spotlight. He continued, saying that he wasn't sure that he would have agreed to star in Batman if it had come after Twilight had debuted, saying, "I think I probably would have been a little bit nervous to have gone straight into it immediately afterwards."

Robert didn't confirm whether we might see him in another Batman film in the future, but don't expect his blockbuster role to result in renewed attention from the paparazzi. "I made it impossible for people to follow me," he said. "I’d be completely hermetic. It wouldn’t be worth it to wait outside my house, because I wouldn’t come out.”
