Forgive the obvious comparison, but this thing can have you looking like Jason Voorhees under the glow of arcade lights—although it takes an entirely different approach to anti-aging. The device features 648 lights that send different types of light into the depths of your skin.
You can choose from the following three light modes, each of which is programmed for a 3-minute session, depending on your goals:
Standalone red light: Stimulates collagen production for long-term firmness and resilience
Red and infrared light: For deeper penetration and long-term textural benefits
Blue light: Murders the bacteria that cause acne (every day is Friday the 13th for these blue LEDs)
And while those lights are relatively commonplace across LED masks, here’s where TheraFace’s mask stands out: The design is brilliant, in that it broadly covers and hugs your face to deliver a soothing massage around the periphery of your eyes, not unlike the brand’s terrific SmartGoggles. There are eight massage panels powered by 17 motors, which work together to boost circulation in the area and help dissolve any stress and inflammation from the day. For that reason, I like alternating when I use the mask, because those circulation benefits are great for the day ahead, while the de-stressing is a p.m. need.
I especially love that the eye panels on this are securely walled off from the lights, though these silicon guards are removable, should you want to wear the mask without them. And while the mask is of course FDA-cleared—meaning there’s no real risk from the LEDs in terms of eye damage—I still appreciate the added assurance that I won’t be squinting for hours after each use. This means I can multitask while using the device, should I choose to—or watch TV, or read, or (let’s be real) scroll my phone.
The mask is extremely easy to wipe clean with its smooth underside, and its cushioned velcro straps are can adjust a variety of head sizes—which makes it a breeze to share with a partner. I’ve found it simple enough to incorporate it into my morning and evening regimens. I pair it with my follicle-stimulating laser cap for a few minutes of glowy zen. I’m sure I look absurd, but it feels far from it. Plus, what’s not to love about this Voorheesian mask that sits upright in its display stand like a trophy? I look over at it with pride throughout the day, and love that it’s a conversation piece turned show-and-tell whenever visitors stop by.
