Robb Recommends: The Day and Night Serums That’ll Make Your Skincare Routine Easier

Welcome to Robb Recommends, a regular series in which our editors and contributors endorse something they’ve tried and loved—and think will change your life for the better.

To outline how much I love this skincare duo from Doctor Rogers, I need to take a moment to rave about the company’s founder. When it comes to skincare, Heather Rogers, M.D., is one of the world’s top sounding boards for advice and oversight. For my entire career, she has given me the most logical, straight-shooting advice—not only to share with readers, but also for my personal use. Her SPF take alone has changed how I shop for and use sunscreen products, and certainly how I educate readers about that topic (and many more).

I was an instant fan of her eponymous skincare assortment when it launched. (There are plenty of products to choose from, but the line is probably best known for the beloved, cult-favorite Restore Healing Balm). Rogers and her team managed to distill all of her wisdom into a regimen that doesn’t embrace excess; I wouldn’t call it minimalist, but each product does focus on maximum benefits given its place in your regimen.

Her latest launch feels like the biggest leap forward, too: the pair of day and night treatments is available separately, and both are designed to work across skin types (including sensitive). One is for morning, one for bedtime, and each is layered beneath your moisturizer to target your skin’s needs at that particular time of day.

Doctor Rogers Day Preventive Treatment

The Day Preventative Treatment addresses the fact that, during the day, our skin is compromised by a world full of pollutants, UV rays, and blue light-emitting devices, all of which cause skin stress and degrade our skin’s firmness, resilience, and suppleness. The serum uses potent antioxidants to fortify the skin against these toxins and other aggressors (including but not limited to the moisturizing duo of glycerin and squalane, plus vitamins B, C, and E). It’s a terrific post-sun product, too, to neutralize some of that damage caused by spending so much time getting blasted by UV rays.

Doctor Rogers Night Repair Treatment

The Night Repair Treatment, on the other hand, turns its focus to the regenerative cycle that your body experiences as you slumber. It harnesses anti-aging bakuchiol (a plant-sourced alternative to retinol) to stimulate and improve the cellular turnover process. This yields a clearer, firmer, and smoother complexion. It’s also aided by the inclusion of glycolic acid and salicylic acid (in light doses) to buff surface skin cells and keep pores unclogged, as well as nourishing shea butter and hydrating squalane.

The key idea with these serums is to eliminate the general need for other treatment products in your assortment. That’s not saying you should toss your favorite Vitamin C serum or go-to acne cream, but if you want to consolidate an otherwise tedious regimen, these products will seriously streamline things for you.

Both of these products are well layered under the doc’s own moisturizing face cream (for dry to normal skin types) or moisturizing face lotion (a lighter option for combination, oily, and acne-prone types). And don’t disappoint her by ignoring your requisite SPF layer by daytime too: Just because she doesn’t currently offer sunscreen doesn’t mean it’s not still an important, crucial step in your skincare routine.
