Peter Sagan is one of the biggest names in the sport of cycling. He first rose to prominence winning sprint finishes and hopping onto cars with his bike.

Before all of that, however, Peter began his career as a mountain biker. On March 15th, 2024, Sagan announced a return to mountain bike racing with the Specialized Factory team. See his official introduction below.

To those who have been paying attention this move is not a surprise. The 2008 Cross Country Junior World Champion raced both cross country and short track at the World Championships in Scotland last summer where he finished 63rd and 37th respectively.

Sagan also competed in the Olympic cross-country race at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

In an Olympic year, Sagan's sights are set on Paris.

At 34, Sagan certainly has something in the tank. At 37, Nino Schirter won the 2023 overall title, snagging wins at two rounds on the way.

Sagan’s presence at the Cross Country World Cup will certainly be a draw. Sagan is a fan favorite for his antics and riding skills. In fact, as of 2022, Sagan had the second most instagram followers on instagram of any cyclist, trailing only Fabio Wibmer. Bringing the attention to mountain biking will only be good for the sport.

We at BIKE wish him luck in the coming year.
