"Riverdale" Has Started Filming Season 4 While Continuing to Honor Luke Perry

“You were one of a kind and impacted everyone’s lives…”

We're still months away from the October 9th premiere of Riverdale's fourth season on The CW, but some of the show's cast and crew are already preparing for its return. Stars of the series have started posting behind the scenes 'grams from filming, and as a photo shared on Monday by Mädchen Amick revealed, the group continues to pay tribute to Luke Perry.

Luke, who played Fred Andrews, father to Archie Andrews, passed away in March, and since then the show and its stars have continued to touch on the impact of the former Beverly Hills 90210 star. Following the conclusion of the show's third season, Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told viewers that the premiere episode of season four would be a tribute to Luke, and on Monday, the cast had a table read for the episode.

Mädchen shared an Instagram of the moment, writing, "There was nothing but love, memories and mourning for our beloved Luke as we honor him in our first episode back." In the photo, all of our Riverdale faves are there, with the group striking poses and sharing smiles. The comments also filled with words of love and support, including a heart emoji from Luke's son, Jake, US Weekly reports.

There's no word on how exactly the premiere episode, titled "In Memoriam," will delve into the loss of Luke, but in a tweet posted last month, Roberto said it was "probably the most important episode of #Riverdale we’ll do this year, if not ever. A tribute to our fallen friend."

Prior to the planned tribute episode, Roberto promised viewers that Luke's death would be addressed at some point. However, he had asked for time, saying, "We know that we have to address it in some way, but we’re giving ourselves a little bit of time and space before we figure out the best way to honor him."

Luke's final episodes had featured the actor giving Archie a supportive pep talk, and later, the character was placed out of town. Roberto shared in a March Instagram post that all future episodes of the show would be dedicated to Luke.
