"Riverdale" Stars Madelaine Petsch and Vanessa Morgan Vlog About Their Friendship

In the little town of Riverdale, relationships blossom; families bend, break, or grow stronger; and friendships are born. The hit CW show has spawned some real-life friendships too, like the ones between leads Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes and KJ Apa and Cole Sprouse. And now meet your new BFF-ship: Madelaine Petsch, AKA Cheryl Blossom, and Vanessa Morgan, who’s joining the cast in season two as Toni Topaz, a Serpent who will probably stir things up for the core characters.

On Wednesday, Madelaine posted a vlog on her YouTube channel that featured Vanessa. The two go in on their friendship, and their mutual love is so evident in the nine-minute vid. The actresses reveal that they met two years ago during Riverdale screen tests, where Madelaine was reading for Cheryl and Vanessa for Josie. According to Madelaine, they “instantly” became friends — sometimes you just know, right? They swapped Insta handles, a true mark of modern-day friendship, and though Vanessa didn’t score the role of the lead Pussycat, she was still super happy for Madelaine.

Everything worked out in the end, and now they’re basically inseparable. The actresses filmed the vlog before they had to be on set, and they quiz each other on how well they know one another. (FYI, Madelaine’s favorite season is fall, and Vanessa’s is summer.)

Vanessa has said she would like her character Toni, who is canonically bisexual, to date Cheryl, which would be an awesome way for Riverdale to further explore its characters’ sexualities and show more representation. Will that wish shore up? It may be too soon to tell. Either way, Vanessa is officially part of the Riverdale fam, and we can’t wait to see if (and when) the IRL besties meet on film.
